About Kate

I live in the sunny South of France with my family. I hop back to the UK regularly to visit family, tea shops, pubs and bookshops! I write wild and adventurous children’s fiction and non-fiction about animals, people and STEM that encourage a can-do spirit, a quest for knowledge and a sense of adventure. I love to use immersive story-telling techniques to inspire and enthral my young readers and their parents and teachers too.

My research skills were honed by a love of books, studying for an international business degree, working as a marketer for food companies and then as a freelance writer. In 2014, my children’s story, The Elephant Carnival, won a Walker Books Animal Stories competition for 4-7-year-olds. I also won The First Chapter of a Novel competition at the Winchester Literary Festival for a YA concept. I studied short story writing at The London School of Journalism and writing for children at agency Curtis Brown Creative. I am a member of the wonderfully supportive SCBWI and SOA.

In 2021 I sold my first children’s non-fiction book. I now have ten children’s books under contract with publishers Walker Books, Dorling Kingsley/PRH, Bloomsbury, Welbeck, Kingfisher/Macmillan, and Wide Eyed Editions/Quarto.
